Behind the Laughter is Paranoid Image's second full-length album. The album in its entirety is a wonderful trip through the evolution of Paranoid Image. Still the "acoustic alternative" band, we've playfully played with some more plug-in sounds, such as with the first ironically created song on the album, "Paranoid Image". However, all sounds you hear are played and not programmed or sampled, as is always the case with PI's music. (Well, except for the Disco Mynx remix of our song "Guitar Jam").
Several of the songs are covers that were released througout 2023 and into 2024, such as a cover of Florence + The Machine's "Heavy In Your Arms", Michael Jackson's "They Don't Care About Us" and Apparat's "Goodbye". But wait until you hear the arrangements. "They Don't Care About Us is reminiscent of a Brazilian batucada bateria that features mainly percussion and vocals. "Heavy In Your Arms" is a complete orchestral arrangement, as is "Goodbye", our version of the theme song to Netflix's "Dark". Orchestration including horns and strings are utilized to bring songs alive even more, such as at the end of our original song, "Colorado Burns".
We are very proud of how far we have come since our first album, "Burning Paint", in 2018. Sara's voice is even more delectable and Christopher's orchestral arrangements have reached more heights. Listen from the first song through the last song, the "Paranoid Image Reprise" which features percussion and piano, to enjoy the full journey!
Big thanks to artist Kristina Davies who created this special album cover artwork for us!
